wow, Kelly, this picture makes me think, "I wish I was there!" It's pretty surreal. The lightened background kind of looks like an explosion lit up the sky, even the side of my face! Pretty cool though. I must say, after all your descriptions about trying to develop the art of capturing the "essence" of people in photos, this is a fantastic shot. I am partial to B&W too.
And I agree with Debbie, that is a very good shot of her. Not the typical Debbie smile, not a smirk either. Somewhere in between, in a way that captures both joy and humor.
